C-X Coupling Reactions (X = O; C) with Inorganic, Organic, and Bio Catalysts
Paul Alsters DSM Pharma Products paul.alsters@dsm.com
In order to deal with the large variety of structures of increasing molecular complexity encountered in market inquiries, pharmaceutical and fine-chemical manufacturers need a broad technological tool box that enables the synthesis of the required compounds. Process development should not only be in line with increasingly complex technological demands, but also meet increasingly strict regulatory and economical demands. Accordingly, sustainable process development takes into account requirements related to technical feasibility, cost, environmental compatibility, and safety. Development of sustainable, "green" processes for chemical manufacture heavily relies on the advancements made in the area of catalysis. This lecture presents work by DSM Pharma Products in collaboration with academic partners on catalytic C-C and C-O coupling reactions. These reactions are carried out with a diverse set of catalysts from simple inorganic ions via inorganic materials to organic compounds and enzymes, and they span a diverse set of transformations, including epoxidation, oxidative cleavage, "dark" singlet oxygenation, asymmetric aldol plus Mannich reactions, and enantioselective cyanide additions. |
